Finally seen the light?
Hakuba is one of Japan's premier winter sports
playgrounds with no fewer than 7 major resorts and a
number of smaller ones. It played host to a number
of events at the 1998 Winter Olympics, and has been
to the forefront of the Japanese Ski Industry for
over 50 years.
Happo
One is consistently voted Japan's top ski resort by
the Japanese themselves, taking into account
facilities, prices, access, and atmosphere. And
while it may not be as foreigner friendly as places
like Niseko, it is a great place to experience the
wonder of Japanese powder snow.
And it is not all about skiing or snowboarding.
There are great bars and restaurants to relax in and
relive the day. In many ways Japanese wining and
dining is very civilized. There is not much standing
around with a beer in your hand, more a relaxing few
hours in an Izakaiya over a few drinks as the staff
bring out one great dish after another.
Hakuba also has a number of hot spring bath
houses, which in addition to those in the hotels
offers a place to soak away tired muscles at the end
of the day, and refresh you for the evening ahead.
For those in self contained accommodation, there
are 3 major supermarkets (Max Value being open to
11PM), and half a dozen convenience stores (the
7-11's have international ATMs).
Medical facilities and ambulance services are on
also on hand. So no worries there.
Getting here has never been easier, with direct
services from Narita Airport an Tokyo, and a JR Line
running right through the middle of town.
It doesn't get any better!! So get off the
sofa and book your winter vacation in Hakuba.
